Meet Mary Kathleen McKenna
aka Kathie Bishop

Mary Kathleen McKenna, aka Kathie Bishop, Ph.D., began her journey researching women’s history and advocating for women’s rights in her teens. She remains a lifelong feminist, actively seeking out women’s stories, in particular, ancient women’s history (no, women did not sit in caves by the fire while the men hunted, fished, created tools, and found resources to bring home to their families as current written history would like us to believe).

Adopted before she was born, Mary Kathleen sought her biological connection to the past and at the same time, searched for hidden history which often turned out to be hidden in plain sight. Expecting to take about six months, Mary Kathleen has found that thirty years later, she is still uncovering that history and applying that knowledge to her writing. While her writing is fictional, the stories are always thoroughly researched. They are written in layers with characters from the present who also seek their past history, often uncovering surprising information in mysterious ways.

Ms. Mckenna lives in central New York at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains where the snow can sometimes reach the second-story windows in the winter. Her second, much warmer home near Tampa, Florida is where she spends most of the winter. She lives with her beloved husband Ron and her cherished pet family. She has two adult children, poet Vincent Eric and Katrina Anne.
